Any person who is a manufacturer, dealer, repairer, or importer dealing in any kind of weight or measure in the Indian market needs a license to sell such product in the market.
The Legal Metrology Act, 2009
The Legal Metrology Act, 2009 (“LM Act”) establishes uniform weights and measures and regulates trade and commerce in weights, measures and other goods which are sold or distributed by weight, measure or number. As per Section 23 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, manufacturing, repair and dealer license is issued by the Controller.
The Model of Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Rules, 2010
As per the Model of Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Rules, 2010, every manufacturer, repairer or dealer of weight or measure instruments shall make an application for the issue of license in the appropriate form set out in Schedule II-A. Repairer license is applied in Form LR-1 and issued in Form LR-3.
Validity & Renewal
Valid for 1 calendar year and may be renewed for a period of 1 year to 5 years
License Renewal to be done within 30 days before the expiry of validity of license in Form LR-2.
