ISI MARKING SCHEME
Satisfying Quality Systems and Product Requirements to fit for their intended purpose
BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS (BIS) - ISI Marking Scheme
Safety And Quality Are
Non-Negotiable
BIS is the National Standard Body of India operating under the aegis of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Health and Public Distribution. BIS is established under the BIS Act, 2016 for smooth progression of the activities of standardization, marking and quality certification of goods and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
BIS operates “ISI Marking Scheme” which is a Product Certification Scheme to raise the quality of products and provide common consumers access to the benefits of standardization. Each product or package must bear the ISI mark after grant of license, which will be indicated by a CM/L number. ISI mark must be stated on the test certificate if it cannot be physically applied to the product or packaging.
WHO CAN APPLY
FOR ISI MARKING CERTIFICATION?
All Indian manufacturers who fall under mandatory BIS certification are required to apply as per the relevant Indian Standard under Indian Standards Institution (ISI) Marking Scheme.

TYPES OF ISI MARKING CERTIFICATION
Mandatory Certification
Products are brought under mandatory certification by the Central Government as per the provision of BIS Act, 2016 or other Acts. If the product falls under the mandatory list, it is compulsory for the manufacturer to get a BIS license.
Voluntary Certification
The BIS certification scheme is basically voluntary in nature. If the product does not fall under the mandatory list, it is voluntary for the manufacturer to get a BIS license. Any manufacturer who is certain that his product will be able to meet the BIS standard may submit an application for product certification on voluntarily basis.
