Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS)

BIS License mandatory for Electronics & IT product manufacturers under CRS

BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS (BIS) -Compulsory Registration Scheme

Supporting You In The
Digital Age

Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) is a self-conformity scheme which applies only to Electronics and IT products.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has issued the “Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirement for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2012” for certain electronic items. In accordance with the Order, no person shall manufacture, store for sale, import, sell, or distribute goods that do not meet the Indian Standard specified in the Order and do not bear the Standard Mark with a specific registration number obtained from BIS.

Compulsory Registration Scheme is operated under Scheme – II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. Through registration based on self-declaration of conformity for goods and articles as per Indian Standards, the BIS issues licence to manufacturers to use or apply Standard Mark with unique “R-number”. A factory audit is not required as a result of this self-declaration of conformity, which shows that the manufacturing infrastructure can produce high-quality products with the necessary testing facilities and can test the products within the required time at the factory premises only.

WHO CAN APPLY

FOR CRS?

Manufacturer (factory owner) of any product, which comes under the ambit of the Compulsory Registration Order (CRO) notified by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) or any other Ministry.
